Oimoyasan`s Daigaku Imo
Haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate.
I couldn`t find a funny quote but this is about potatoes sweeter cousin, sweet potatoes.
If you would ask me which do I like better, banana cue or kamote cue. Well, no hate but...banana cue all the way. Lol. Kasi naman yung mga kamote cue sa Pinas tipid sa asukal eh. Haha
When I was young, konti pa lang yung mga bahay doon sa subdivision naming hilaw. Bakante yung magkabilaang side, so my lola who came from a family of farmers decided to plant those vacant lots. We had corn, peanuts, kamoteng kahoy and of course kamote. I would remember dati we would harvest those kamote tapos yun na snack namin. I have to admit back then I didn`t appreciate yung kamote, syempre gusto ko mga chips ganon. But now whenever I see kamote, I would always remember those days.
This afternoon, I decided to buy daigaku imo or candied sweet potatoes from a shop in Kita Senju called Oimoyasan. I would usually buy before but sa supermarket or sa Sushiro. It`s a specialty shop and it seemed that the shop has been around for some time.
Apparently, they have quite a few branches in Japan.
The price of the daigaku imo differs per gram. I bought 200 grams worth of daigaku imo for 560 yen.
So, how does it fair to the supermarket daigaku imos?
So, I got 6 pieces of kamote. The pieces are quite big. Usually, those from the supermarkets are cut vertically and is not that syrupy. Usually dry pa nga eh. I was asked by the store staff if I was okay with the black sesame and I said yes, sayang din. Lol But I`m glad I did. For me, it added another layer of texture and even flavor as well.
Now, taste test.
It`s soft in fairness. The syrup is smooth and sweet, a little too sweet for my liking. Haha Tita levels na talaga. Huhu Masarap sya without chorr. Legit! I finished up 2 pieces lang kasi nabusog na ako agad.
I know this is a lousy review and lakompake. Lol They have a website that you can check. There are other products too. :)
P.S
I ate another piece bago lang and I can say and would advise to warm it up before eating. Medyo tumigas kasi yung syrup. ☺️
